The Mother:
Four tracks from the lost Forms Of Escape album. Originally intended as rough mixes, these are all that remained of these songs after a well intentioned computer technician "cleaned up" the hard drive on which the multi tracks resided. With the exception of I Feel Good and Darker the live tracks included on this CD are also songs originally included on this album. A further three demos from this project accompanied Some Girls Wander By Mistake on the Sasquatch Sessions EP, an early version of another song, When Alice Dances, can be heard on 1999’s Muster compilation CD, and a Demo of Hero was released on the Demos 'n' Jams album. One other song, Prophet's Lament, remains unreleased in any form.
lyrics
In the early hours of an August morning
You turned the latch on a forbidden door
You stepped right through like it was nothing
What did you do that for?
And if you thought you'd become an angel
Did you not know you already were
Now a hundred songs seem to echo your goodbye
We all loved you. We still do.
You left too soon - nobody knew
It's like the joke was on us somehow
And you just left the room
And now there is no coming back for you
Who the reaper takes will not return
But I still wonder who was in your head
And was there something I could do?
You left too soon - nobody knew
It's like the joke was on us somehow
And you just left the room
Gone too soon - I wish I knew
Why I feel like the joke was on us somehow
And you just left the room
That's right, That's right,
You just left the room, left too soon,
That's right, That's right,
Do not, do not, do not open that door.
What did you do that for? What did you do that for?
That's right.
Left too soon, left the room, left too soon,
One hundred songs but you are gone,
That's right, That's right.
Just left the room, left too soon,
What did you do that for?
Now you will bring me rum no more.
